Cadence The Jade Edit

I’m in love with Cadence capsules but these are something special. I spent my college career studying archaeology, and while I worked at a site in Ireland outside of Kilfenora, my classroom experience centered on the Ancient Maya. I was always drawn to the rituals we discussed in class, the ceremony in communing with ancestors, with marking time, with warfare, the ballgame, and the harvest, among many, many other things.

Jade was the material most prized by the Maya for ritual and ceremonial purposes. The hard stone was carved into figurines, teeth inlays, ear spools, mosaics… the list goes on. It was a precious material that symbolized growth and rebirth, the greenstone also symbolizing the Corn God and the creation of the Maya world. I found myself sucked into pre-Columbian studies despite myself, and perhaps, too, because of jade—the green connecting me to my team at my beloved boarding school, a place of many rituals itself, personal and special to me and my schoolmates. I’ve never been quite sure. But green, to me, has always symbolized that connection, that ritual.

I’ve been using these capsules to ritualize my everyday routine, elevating it into something special instead of just the mundane.
